Uri Jeremias (known by his restaurant name: Uri Buri) invites Phil to his seafood restaurant in Acre (pronounced Akko) and shares his notable dishes with Phil. Phil tries smoked eggplant and roe Spanish Mackerel with nigella on toast, salmon sashimi with a wasabi sorbet, and the “OMG” (Orange/Mango/Grapefruit) sorbet ice cream with olive oil on top.

Michal Ansky, a journalist and gastronomist in Israel, takes Phil to Shuk HaNamal, a Tel Aviv port market created by Ansky. The market offers goods from over 70 vendors. Ansky also takes Phil to Sherry Herring where Phil tries a herring sandwich served with a shot of vodka. L’chaim!

Chef Yoshih Shihtrit of Mashya serves Moroccan influenced Israeli cuisine in a modern way. Daniel and TV Host Ruthie Russo join Phil for a tasting menu. They try a shakshouka mini pizza with micro coriander, then cauliflower stuffed lamb kebab, and sashimi tuna salad with wheat salad. Finally they complete their meal with a toasted grapefruit marshmallow dessert.

Phil meets with Steven Rothfeld, author of the book Israel Eats, for vegan Israeli cuisine at Zakaim. They dine on a ricotta dish made with soy milk and salt, cauliflower gundy chips and grilled mushroom skewers that replace the need to eat meat.

Shimon the King of Soups is now run by the King’s daughter. The restaurant serves kosher Yemeni style soup and uses every part of the animal in a variety of delicious stews. Phil tries stews made with cheekbones, oxtail, gizzard and offal.

Abu Hassan is a restaurant where everyone goes for traditional Israeli cuisine. Be prepared for the long lines and quick dining. You’ll hear the owner and staff yelling “yalla yalla” to move diners along to accommodate the demand outside.

They serve hummus made with various ingredients that reflect influences from different cultures surrounding the Israeli area. The quirky synagogue theme will invite you in even if you’re not hungry.

Dr. Shakshuka

Phil reunites with the Israeli version of “Everybody Loves Raymond” Producer Daniel Lappin and Actor Yuval Yaniv for shakshouka stew and lamb shawarma for breakfast. The recipe was handed down from Dr. Shakshouka‘s father. Dr. Shakshouka carries on his father’s recipes and all food is made and served by the Doctor himself.
