Cleland Wildlife Park

Phil heads to Cleland Wildlife Park to introduce himself to some of the locals. He meets Max, Mandy, and Matilda for a delicious breakfast of freshly picked eucalyptus leaves. This is a great place to get a close up look at some of Australia’s native wildlife!

Firedoor

Food writer Pat Nourse takes Phil to the one place he needs to go during his visit to Sydney, Firedoor. Chef Lennox Hastie sources seasonal local ingredients and cooks them exclusively over an open flame, without any help from gas or electric heat. You’d be hard pressed to find another restaurant preparing food like this anywhere else, and it’s something you just have to experience on your trip to Sydney!

Speedos Cafe

Phil’s trip to the beach is spoiled due to rain, so he grabs breakfast at “the world’s most instagrammable restaurant”, Speedos Cafe. Overlooking Bondi Beach, this is a perfect place to take in a fantastic brekky and take in some gorgeous scenery! Phil calls it the ultimate breakfast experience.

A.P Place

Phil stops for lunch at one of his favorite bakeries, A.P Place. He’s been there for pastries before, but he’s heard that he needs to try their brisket meat pie. Meat pies are wildly popular in Australia, and the brisket pie at A.P Place will not disappoint you. Make sure you also try their porchetta sandwich!

Saint Peter

Phil takes his wife Monica to one of the best seafood restaurants he’s ever been to, Saint Peter. Phil describes chef Josh Niland as a seafood genius as he dines on fish charcuterie, dry aged mackerel, and a delicious tuna burger topped with swordfish belly bacon. You will be blown away by their wonderfully innovative seafood tasting menu.

OzHarvest

Phil meets with Ronni Kahn, the founder of OzHarvest, at her refettorio. In collaboration with chef Massimo Bottura, the OzHarvest refettorio serves as a place where people in tough circumstances can get a delicious meal served in a dignified space. Whether you’re homeless, elderly, or a struggling student, anyone can stop by and get a free lunch at Refettorio Ozharvest. Check out their website to learn more about this beautiful organization.

Porkfat

Phil is joined by his cousin Jeremy Shartar and his college best friend Tom Mcgowan to one of his favorite Thai restaurants, Porkfat. As you might be able to guess, all of the food at this restaurant is cooked in pork fat. The results are delicious, and the boys indulge in a pork fried feast.

Sydney by Sail

Phil and his friend Tom take their wives Monica and Cathy on a boat tour of Sydney. They are joined by chef Josh Niland from Saint Peter and his wife Julie. Munda Wines

Phil is guided through the vineyards of Munda Wines by the winery’s director Paul Vandenbergh. Majority owned and operated by indigenous Australians, Munda spreads the beauty of aboriginal culture through its impressive wines. Check out their website to see where you can purchase a bottle!

Parwana

Phil meets the Ayubi family at their family owned and operated restaurant Parwana. This wildly popular Afghan restaurant is known for their Kabuli Palaw, a fragrant rice dish with carmelized carrots and lamb. Whether you’re unfamiliar with Afghan cuisine, or you’re already a big fan, this extraordinary restaurant should definitely make your Adelaide list.

Adelaide Central Market

Phil loves a central market, and Adelaide’s central market has been there since 1869! First he stops by Skala for their famous lamingtons (an Australian favorite), cream-filled chocolate sponge cake topped with coconut flakes. Next he tries some native Australian game meat at his new friend chef Daniel Motlop’s stall, Something Wild.

Africola

For his final meal in Australia, Phil brings his new Adelaide friends to chef Duncan Welgemoed’s South African restaurant Africola. They start off with their chicken skin tea sandwich, which Phil calls the best bar snack he’s ever had. They move onto fresh caught lobster, their signature peri peri chicken, and slow smoked wagyu.
