Svaneti Mountain Range

Phil travels an hour outside of Tbilisi to the Svaneti Mountain Range. He meets up with renowned Georgian chef Guram Baghdoshvili (Chveni, Food and Market, Oval) for a campfire cooked meal! Nature fans should definitely schedule some time to explore this gorgeous mountain range.

Gulo Bath

Tbilisi is known for its centuries old sulfur baths. In the dark ages, anyone entering Tbilisi had to first bathe in the sulfur baths to cleanse themselves of diseases. Phil stops by Gulo bath for a relaxing bath, and is then treated to a thorough scrubbing and massage from his new friend Fizulli.

Tamtaki

Phil meets chef Tamta Kikaleishvili and her mother Katya at their innovative Georgian restaurant Tamtaki. The thing to get here is the “tamtaki”, freshly baked bread wrapped around locally-sourced seasonal ingredients. This restaurant repackages traditional Georgian flavors in a modern and approachable way, and is a perfect introduction to the local cuisine.

The Cone Culture

Phil takes chef Tamta and Katya to The Cone Culture for the best ice cream in Georgia! Unique Georgian flavors are mixed into handmade ice cream, and scooped into freshly baked cones. Phil recommends the strawberry jam and waffle flavor.

Teliani Valley Winery

Wine was actually invented in Georgia 8,000 years ago, so Phil travels to the Teliani Valley Winery in the Kakheti wine valley to learn about the history of Georgian winemaking. This winery utilizes both traditional and modern techniques, starting by fermenting its grapes in clay pots for six months, producing a unique flavor profile.

Superhero

Founded in 2020 by husband and wife team Leko and Marita, Superhero is an organization that makes individualized care packages for children in Georgia. Phil helps Leko and Marita make some boxes of toys and school supplies for children who need them before treating some local kids to lunch! Check out their website to learn more.

Littera

Chef Tekuna Gachechiladze is considered the godmother of Georgia’s culinary revolution, and her restaurant Littera specializes in refined/modernized versions of Georgian comfort foods. Chef Gachechiladze serves Phil mussels in green plum sauce, duck stuffed grape leaves, fried artichokes and more. Each dish is better than the last!

Klike’s Khinkali

Phil’s fixer Nika takes him to his favorite khinkali place, Klike’s Khinkali. A staple of Georgian cuisine, Khinkali are soup dumplings traditionally filled with ground beef, but also can be found with different types of meat, cheese, or vegetables. Grab a plate of khinkali, a glass of chacha (wine based liquor), and a beer at Klike’s, you won’t regret it.

Ezo

For his final meal in Tbilisi, Phil meets up with all of his new friends at Kristo Talakhadze’s restaurant Ezo. With a focus on local ingredients, Ezo sources its produce from local villages and farms, and even organizes weekly farmers markets in the area. Their gorgeous courtyard is a great place for a supra, a Georgian feast!
