Tantrum Doughnuts

Phil’s first stop in Scotland is Tantrum Doughnuts, where he enjoys some beautiful hand-crafted doughnuts! He tries the creme brulee doughnut stuffed with homemade vanilla custard, a chocolate custard doughnut, and finishes off with the Mississippi mud pie!

Roseleaf

Phil heads into Leith to have breakfast at the pub Roseleaf with chef Tony Singh and Roseleaf’s owner Jonny Kane. First they have a bowl of Cullen skink, a creamy stew with potatoes, leeks, and smoked haddock. Next up is the main course, a full Scottish breakfast — a plate packed with homemade sausages, mushrooms, baked beans, eggs, potato scones, bacon, black pudding, and of course haggis. This is how you start the day like a Scot!

Johnnie Walker Princes Street

You can’t come to Scotland without trying some scotch, and Johnnie Walker Princes Street is a great place to taste different whiskys and learn about the scotch-making process. Phil is joined by his wife Monica and daughter Lily to try all kinds of delicious scotch. They even have a machine to tailor make a specific blend according to your ideal flavor profile!

Oink

Phil meets up with his friend Melvin Mar for a food crawl on Victoria Street, a street many believe is the inspiration for Diagon Alley from Harry Potter! Their first stop is Oink, which serves a delicious pulled pork sandwich topped with haggis and a spicy sauce. They have several locations across Edinburgh, so look out for an Oink location when traveling in Scotland!

I.J. Mellis

After their pork sandwiches, Phil and Melvin go next door to the cheese shop I.J. Mellis. Along with a wide array of cheeses, I.J. Mellis is also known for a Scottish favorite, Scotch Eggs! These hard boiled eggs are coated with meat (traditionally pork), breaded, and then fried. They have a few varieties of scotch eggs, but Phil and Melvin go for the pork and haggis.

Mary’s Milk Bar

For the last stop on their food crawl, Phil and Melvin meet up with their wives and daughters for ice cream at Mary’s Milk Bar. If you go, make sure to get the “spaghetti sundae”. Milk ice cream “spaghetti” is topped with cherry “meatballs”,  toasted breadcrumbs, and grated white chocolate “parmesan”. This sundae isn’t just fun to eat, it’s also delicious!

Ga Ga

Phil goes to dinner with food writer Julia Bryce at one of her favorite restaurants in Glasgow, Ga Ga. Chef Julie Lin starts their meal off with a massive spicy lobster, and then moves on to mutton curry, and a plate of nasi goreng. While you might not travel to Scotland for Malaysian food, you should definitely make Ga Ga a priority when you’re in Glasgow!

Shawarma King

Phil gets the opportunity to dine with royalty! Majed Badrekhan is the Shawarma King himself, and he serves Phil a mixed shawarma pita with both chicken and lamb. Phil dubs it the best shawarma that he’s ever had. Long live the king!

Archerfield Links

Phil meets new friends Dorothy, Nikki, and Gordon to try his hand at golf at the stunning Archerfield Links golf course. Any golf enthusiasts out there should make a reservation to play a round of golf and enjoy Scotland’s beauty at the same time!

The Fishmarket

Phil takes his daughter Lily to the popular waterfront restaurant The Fishmarket. They share an order of their signature fish and chips, grilled langoustines with garlic butter, crispy crab claws, mussels with white wine, and a chilled lobster. You don’t have to pick between great food and a great view, just go to The Fishmarket!

Social Bite

Phil and his wife Monica stop for coffee and pastries at Social Bite. This amazing cafe not only donates food and drink to the homeless community in Scotland, they also train and employ the homeless. They sit with the Commercial and Operations director Melanie Swan, and Colin Childs. Colin was formerly homeless, but through working at Social Bite has become a fantastic baker. Please consider giving this amazing cafe a visit, or making a donation through their website.

Talisker Distillery

Phil takes a trip via helicopter to the Isle of Skye to visit the Talisker Distillery. Phil takes a tour through the whole scotch-making process, and then is able to sample several differently aged scotches. This is a great way to learn the single malt scotch and taste some delicious whisky!

The Oyster Shed

Following his tour of the Talisker Distillery, Phil takes a short trip to an Isle of Skye favorite, The Oyster Shed. Bring your Talisker whisky and try pouring a little into the oyster, Phil says it’s a perfect pairing! He also enjoys some amazing hot smoked salmon.

Sunny Acre

For his final meal in Scotland, Phil meets up with actress Kelly Macdonald at one of her favorite places: Sunny Acre, a lovely cafe in Glasgow. Mary Wan serves them a courgette salad, a peach focaccia sandwich, and Kelly’s favorite mackerel on rye. For dessert, they share a beautiful assortment of pastries.
