About Somebody Feed the People

Somebody Feed The People is an initiative of the Rosenthal Family Foundation and foodie/do-gooder, Phil Rosenthal, that supports organizations making an impact and building community through food. Somebody Feed The People partners with organizations that address food access and insecurity, support chefs and restaurant workers, create employment pathways, and strengthen the health of our food systems. ALMA Backyard Farms

ALMA exists to re-claim lives of formerly incarcerated people, re-purpose land into productive urban farms, and re-imagine community as a place for people & plants to thrive.

Code for America

Code for America built GetCalFresh, a digital platform to help people apply for CalFresh food assistance (California’s name for SNAP). Code for America’s goal is to ensure that every Californian who needs CalFresh has an easy, dignified experience enrolling in and accessing their food benefits.

Food Chain Workers Alliance

Food Chain Workers Alliance is made up of workers in the food system, employed on farms, in factories, warehouses, trucks, supermarkets, restaurants, cafeterias, selling food on the streets and much more. They organize locally and globally to improve working conditions and have a say in workplaces and communities.

Food Forward

Food Forward is a Southern California organization reducing food waste and increasing access to healthy fruits and vegetables by recovering unwanted fruits from backyard trees, public orchards, farmers markets and the downtown LA Wholesale Produce Market to donate to hunger relief agencies at no cost.

Homeboy Industries

Homeboy Industries is the largest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world. For over 30 years, they have stood as a beacon of hope in Los Angeles to provide training and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated people, allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of our community.

Inclusive Action for the City

Inclusive Action for the City is a community development organization whose mission is to bring people together to build strong, local economies that uplift low-income urban communities through advocacy and transformative economic development initiatives.

Jewish Family Services

Guided by the core Jewish value of Tikun olam, meaning to “repair the world,” Jewish Family Services provides personalized and compassionate support to meet the complex needs of all those who walk through our doors, including their SOVA Program which offers free groceries for all eligible household members.

LA Food Policy Council

The Los Angeles Food Policy Council (LAFPC) works to ensure food is healthy, affordable, fair and sustainable for all. LAFPC believes Good Food for All is possible and that all communities deserve access to good food, grown in a way that respects people and the planet.

Polo’s Pantry

Polo’s Pantry is a mobile food pantry dedicated to groups helping unhoused and marginalized communities in L.A.

Project Angel Food

Project Angel Food prepares and delivers more than one million medically tailored meals each year, free of charge to homes of men, women, and children affected by life-threatening illnesses.

Regarding Her Food

Regarding Her is a non-profit devoted to the advancement and empowerment of women restaurateurs. They strive to create opportunities for connection and success by way of programs that support, unite and uplift female food and beverage entrepreneurs in Los Angeles and beyond.

Swipe Out Hunger

Swipe Out Hunger is a national nonprofit committed to ending college student hunger, allowing students with unused dining dollars or cafeteria swipes to donate a meal to a hungry student on their campus.

Westside Campaign Against Hunger

The Westside Campaign Against Hunger is on a mission to alleviate hunger by ensuring that all New Yorkers have access with dignity to a choice of healthy food and supportive services.
